This jacket is awesome! The first trip I used it on was a 16 hr day up the Witzenberg slabs in mid-summer. Even though the temps were high, I never felt hot in the jacket. It breathes incredibly well, protects from wind, sun, and light showers. I’ve had my Alpine Start Hoodie for three years and it’s looking as good as the day I bought it. It’s always in my pack now.

My ultimate favourite – this jacket goes on every trad route I climb; as regularly as my chalk bag. Ultralight and incredibly versatile, the Alpine Start Hoody uses Schoeller stretch-woven softshell fabric to provide highly breathable, weather resistant protection for all mountain users – whether climbing, running or biking. It’s super compact and fully wind proof. When not in use, it packs into its own chest pocket to the size of a baseball, and has a carabiner loop so you can clip it to your harness. Gusseted construction allows complete freedom of movement, and the hood fits over your climbing helmet for added weather protection when the wind picks up in the afternoon. When combined with the Rhythm T and the Alpenglow you have a very warm 3 season versatile solution. And on top of all that; it’s really tough – had no snags or tears in 3 years of regular trad use.
